Dentist ‘sliced the neck of ex-fiance’s new girlfriend with a razor blade before pretending to be worried neighbor’

AN orthodontist has been accused of slashing her ex-fiance’s new girlfriend with a razor blade in a vicious attack that allegedly saw her lunge out from behind the victim’s driver’s seat.

Alika Crew, 42, of New Rochelle, was arraigned Wednesday for charges of second-degree attempted murder, three counts of first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault, first-degree unlawful imprisonment and criminal possession of a weapon for the alleged attack, according to Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr.

She pleaded not guilty to all charges.

In a news release, Scarpino said Crew – who works at a dental practice in Stamford, Connecticut- lunged “from a crouching position behind the driver’s seat in the victim’s car” on July 28.

The incident allegedly took place a few blocks from where Crew and her ex-fiancé were still living together as the victim drove away from the house after spending the night.

“The victim fled from the car, only to be caught by Crew after a short chase,” Scarpino continued.

“Crew then sliced the victim’s neck with a razor blade causing significant and possibly permanent damage to the neck, as well as to the victim’s hand, which was cut when the victim tried to push Crew away.”

Crew allegedly used a razor blade to slice the victim’s neck, causing significant and possibly permanent damage to her neck. The victim’s hand was also badly cut from attempting to push Crew away, according to court documents.

But what allegedly came next was truly stunning.

“When neighbors came to aid the victim, Crew left the scene, but then returned moments later and pretended to be an additional concerned neighbor,” Scarpino said.

Hoverboard Dentist Sentenced to 12 Years In Prison

Illustration for article titled Dentist Who Pulled Tooth While Riding Hoverboard Sentenced to 12 Years in Prison

Screenshot: Gizmodo/Seth Lookhart’s Dental Office

The hoverboard is the cursed gadget that keeps on giving. Years after the devices became infamous for exploding, they’re back in the news. This week, Seth Lookhart, a former dentist in Anchorage, Alaska, was sentenced to 12 years in jail after a video of him removing a patient’s tooth while riding a hoverboard drew unwanted attention to his illegal activities. Lookhart was convicted on 46 felony and misdemeanor counts in January that included charges of medical assistance fraud, scheme to defraud, unlawful dental acts, and reckless endangerment.

Lookhart’s sentencing took place on Monday, and according to a statement from the Alaska Department of Law, he was given a full sentence of 20 years in jail with eight years suspended. The disgraced dentist was also placed on probation for 10 years and told he can’t practice medicine during that time. According to local news outlet KTUU, the state could still revoke Lookhart’s medical license permanently.

In 2016, at the height of the hoverboard fad, Lookhart decided to conduct a routine tooth removal procedure while teetering on one of the devices. Video footage was taken of the event in which he can be seen victoriously pulling the tooth from the mouth of a sedated patient. He then proceeds to engage the hoverboard and speed down the hallway of his office with his arms raised above his head. According to charging documents, Lookhart’s actions “did not conform to minimum professional standards of dentistry,” and he shared the video with several “persons outside his dental practice.”

The stunt is the primary reason Lookhart’s case has gone viral, but authorities found that he was also unnecessarily sedating patients to rack up fraudulent Medicaid charges totaling almost $2 million—a scam that authorities say he freely described in text messages saying that he was offering a “new standard of care.” In the statement, Superior Court Judge Michael Wolverton is quoted as telling the court that the “overwhelming amount of evidence was often supported, and often in excruciating detail, by Lookhart’s own texts, photos, and videos.”

Some of Lookhart’s victims confronted him from the witness stand during the trial. Veronica Wilhelm, the patient in the hoverboard video, told Lookhart in the courtroom, “I don’t have anything bad to say about taking out my tooth, I appreciate that, but I just think that what you did was outrageous, narcissistic, you know, and crazy.”

A Malaysian dentist has shocked TikTok users by revealing how much toothpaste people should really be putting on their toothbrushes — and it’s a lot less than most people think.

Dr. Gao Jye Teh, a graduate of King’s College in London, has gone viral with a video in which he shows that the amount of toothpaste often used in commercials is actually too much.

Instead, he says, anyone over age three only needs a dollop of toothpaste as big as a single pea.

‘The amount of toothpaste used in commercials is way too much,’ he says after he squeezes out a long line of toothpaste over all the bristles on a toothbrush

In his TikTok video, which has been viewed over six million times, Dr. Gao first squeezes out a long line of toothpaste over all the bristles on a toothbrush.

‘The amount of toothpaste used in commercials is way too much,’ he writes.

He then shows that children under age three only need a tiny smear of toothpaste.

‘They might have trouble not swallowing the excess fluoride toothpaste,’ he explained to Buzzfeed, noting that too much can be detrimental to little kids, whose adult teeth are still developing underneath their gums,

As for anyone over age three, not that much more is necessary: just a pea-sized amount is perfect.

‘This is because fluoride, when ingested in large amounts, can cause a cosmetic condition known as dental fluorosis on the developing teeth. The cosmetic implications range from mild discoloration to yellow and brown stains to obvious pits in the teeth,’ he said.

Using less can prevent this from happening — and a pea-sized amount is just enough to get the benefits.

Dr. Gao has a few more tips. He also said that people shouldn’t rinse their mouths out when they’re done brushing, because the fluoride in the toothpaste needs time to work.

And mouthwash is best used at other times of the day, separate from brushing, to increase the amount of fluoride exposure.
